The end of an era; a fresh beginning; good riddance -- whatever you think of Bill's final day at Microsoft, it's impossible to deny that his tenure there helped forever re-shape not just technology, but the world as we know it. So we're declaring June 27th Bill Gates Day here at Engadget and hopefully you'll forgive us for, like, totally tearing up now that he's finally stepping out of his role as nerd-baron and into the shoes of full-blown immortal philanthropist. Hey, it's Sir William Henry Gates III's world, we just live in it -- that means you, too, Steve.

We'll miss you big guy.

P.S. -Keep this on the DL, but we heard this rumor he's thinking of returning to uni for his post-post-post-doc, and it won't even be honorary. We'll keep you posted. In the mean time today, expect plenty more Bill.

Yahoo lanza su servicio de análisis y estadísticas para sitios web tras la adquisición de Index Tools.

Yahoo! Web Analytics es un servicio web enfocado hacia el análisis de tráfico web, que se diferencia de otros servicios parecidos en que ofrece sus resultados en tiempo real, una funcionalidad que Google Analytics no ofrece.

El servicio todavía en fase beta cerrada para clientes de Yahoo! Small Business dispone de una interesante interfaz que permite personalizar el tablero de mando y trabajar con informes personalizados. Se espera además, que Yahoo! Web Analytics lance una API para que los desarrolladores puedan crear herramientas que interactúen con la información almacenada.

Yahoo! Web Analytics servicio online que integra varias herramientas como el motor de búsqueda de la compañía, se irá implantando paulatinamente hasta final de año en las cuentas de Yahoo! Small Business y se ampliará a otros usuarios durante 2009.

Aunque no existe una confirmación oficial, se especula que Yahoo! Web Analytics no será un servicio gratuito, lo que puede mermar su capacidad para competir con Google Analytics.

blog Nike+ gym equipment coming July -- iPhone integration imminent?

24 Hour Fitness just announced that it will be the first to offer Nike+ iPod enabled gym equipment at select clubs starting next month. The press release says the following:

'Nike and Apple worked with major gym equipment manufacturers to make their cardio equipment Nike + iPod compatible so gym members can easily track and record workouts on cardio equipment like treadmills, stair steppers, elliptical trainers and stationary bikes.'

The press release only mentions the iPod nano. In fact, that may be all that we're talking about here. Nevertheless, July is synonymous with the iPhone 3G, 2.0 firmware, and App Store launches and there's that little ol' patent application (the source of the picture above) which describes leveraging the iPhone's sensors to turn it into a 'lifestyle companion.' Nike of course, already confirmed that its Plus system would be extending to the iPhone and iPod touch sometime in the future. July seems as good a time as any don't you think?
